Heavy Metal Match:
Heavy Metal is a timed event consisting of three guns. RIFLE is 7.62x51 (308) or larger, bolt action only (30-30 and 7.62x39 is too small), SHOTGUN is 12 gauge pump action only (no speed loaders), iron sights only PISTOL is 45 caliber, magazine capacity no more than 8 rounds, iron sights only. Match starts with rifle loaded, action open, on table, hands at side. At start buzzer, pick up rifle, shoot two foot square steel at 200 yards, with 5 rounds only. All hits add no time, any misses add 10 seconds each. When completed place rifle on table, empty with action open. Move to shotgun stage, approximately 30 feet, shotgun is staged on table, empty, action open. Load shotgun with only 5 slugs, engage two foot square steel plate at
75 to 100 yards*, all hits add no time, all misses add 10 seconds each. Move with shotgun to next table, about 10 feet away. Load shotgun with birdshot (number 6 or smaller shot) engage all knock down steel targets. Any left standing adds 10 seconds each. There are 12 to 15 targets at this stage. When completed, place shotgun on table, empty, with action open. Move to pistol portion, about 30 feet away. For this match we can use a holster if you want, if not, handgun is brought to the table bagged, then placed on table prior to start, empty, action open. If holstered, it can NOT be loaded. You can only holster or handle your handgun at safety table prior to start. Any handling of your handgun away from the safety table except when ordered to do so by the range safety officer may be grounds for disqualification. Magazines can be on shooter or on table. Load only when in designated shooting area. Engage all falling steel. 24 targets of varying size from 30 to 60 feet away. Any targets left standing will add 10 seconds each to time. At last shot time stops. Shooter will unload and show clear to range safety officer and holster or bag handgun. Shooter may then remove rifle and shotgun. When all clear is given there is no handling of firearms when people are down range resetting steel. At this point, shooters may pick up their brass if they would like. Time and any penalties will be added together. Lowest score wins.There is no limit to the amount of ammo at the handgun and birdshot portion of the shotgun. The rifle and slug portion of the shotgun stage is 5 shots fired only for each.
Team Rifle is followed by this event with a lunch break in between. WWGC provides a free lunch to shooters, usually hamburgers, hot dogs or brauts & chips.

This is a new match on a trail basis for this year. If all goes well this could be a scheduled match next year.
The two man teams will be formed by drawing cards. This is a timed event. All targets are non falling steel targets. The long range rifle targets are at 200 yards, there are 3 targets 1 - 10", 1 - 5" & 1 - 3". The close range carbine targets are at 100 yards, there are 8 - 16" targets. The long range rifleman shooters starting position is prone. The carbine shooter can be in either the standing, kneeling or sitting position. For start, both shooters will load and make ready. At the start buzzer, the long range rifleman will shoot the 10" target at 200 yards 1 time. Then the carbine shooter will engage each of the 16" targets at 100 yards 1 time each. Then the long range shooter will shoot the 5" target at 200 yards 1 time. Then the carbine shooter will engage the 16" targets at 100 yards 1 time each. Then the long range shooter will shoot the 3" target at 200 yards 1 time. Then the carbine shooter will engage the 16" targets at 100 yards 1 time each. Each shooter will have 3 chances to hit each target before it is considered a miss. A 10 second penalty will be added for each target not hit. All teams will go thru the course, than the shooters will switch positions. Both runs along with any penalties will be added together. The team with the fastest time wins.
