Individual Grounds Management

{Be Safe, Enjoy Yourself, Leave it better than you found it}

Many club members enjoy using the shooting park on an individual basis during the week when no organized events are in progress.

Often these members perform grounds maintenance while at the shooting park and never turn in their hours to be counted. Individual effort at the shooting park is recorded when turned in to Bob Diamond.

Checklist of issues that should be checked by members

Drainage under the entrance drive:
There are two drainage tubes under the drive just inside the steel gate. The primary tube is under ground all the way to the creek. The second tube located closer to the gate is an overflow that keeps water from flowing over the drive in heavy rain.

Any time a member enters the property, the debris grate over the primary tube should be checked and any accumulation removed.

AVOID FLOWING WATER: Do not try to clean out the grate if there is flowing water in the ditch.
If it is soon after a rain and the bank and ditch are muddy, THIS IS A BUDDY JOB! A club member should not be working in this ditch if there are no other members on the property who can assist.

Trash along the road:
The shooting park is located in a rural residential area and there is lots of traffic on the county road bordering the property. When arriving at the park check for and remove any litter near the road.

Scheduled Trash Pickup:
Scheduled trash pickup is set for the first Friday of each month.
Members using the property just prior to that time should dump the trash cans so that we get full value from trash service.

ALSO: During the off season, if it is close to trash pickup day and there is very little trash in the dumpster and the barrels are empty, a call to the Grounds Chairperson can save the club the cost of unneeded trash service.

Inspect the Range:
When an individual user arrives at the range a visual inspection of the backstops and the infield should be made for unsafe objects in these locations.

The freeze thaw cycle can cause rocks to surface and windstorms can cause tree branches to be blown onto the backstops and infield. These should be removed before any firing takes place.

Inspect the Firing Line:
Clear away any fall hazards. Blown over chairs should be placed properly, trash barrels still attached to the uprights and the general condition of the property examined before firing.

Pick up Brass:
While all responsible users of the property police their own brass, some is missed on occasion. Take a couple of minutes and remove clutter from the firing line before leaving.

The Rest Rooms:
The restrooms need swept out frequently, depending on the weather. If a member elects to mop the floors you will need to bring your own equipment and water.

Report missing or damaged equipment:

The safety flags take a beating in some weather conditions and often need work. Report anything that looks out of place to the Grounds Committee or any board member.
